The Demand is up for Warehouse Space during Holiday Season. Don’t worry, we have space available!

The COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic has changed the buying habits of consumers in the United States. “U.S. consumers are turning to ecommerce more during the COVID-19 outbreak due to the fact that social distancing measures and shelter-in-place orders have made online shopping more convenient or in some cases, the only way to get the goods they need,” says Taylor Schreiner, director of Adobe Digital Insights comments in a Digital Commerce 360 article. Ecommerce sales have already been increasing year over year, but the pandemic has definitely caused a surge in online sales. This is true in almost every category aside from apparel, which will most likely start increasing this holiday season.

Unlike shopping in person, the retail distribution model is different than an ecommerce fulfillment model. Retailers may now rely on third party logistics (3PL) partners to ship direct to consumers in a drop ship scenario rather than placing a large purchase order and distributing to its own stores. As a result, warehouse and fulfillment centers are popping up across the United States and retailers are scrambling to find a reliable partner to accommodate consumer needs in a compliant manner.

In fact, Scarbrough was able to increase warehousing space to accommodate client demands adding two new warehouses in less than a year. Scarbrough’s Corporate Warehousing Manager, Mark Harding, states,

“We have seen an uptick in online orders, added warehouse space, created jobs, and we have fun doing it. We continually communicate with our clients, understanding their businesses and become an integral partner in their growth strategies. Because of our predictions and understanding client forecasts, we are able to customize to meet their needs…. and in turn, we are able to accept new clients who can benefit from our model and our motto: ‘It is our job to make your job easier.'”

According to the Wall Street Journal, “Sixty percent of consumers plan to shop less in stores this holiday season due to fear of Covid-19 exposure, according to a survey of more than 1,000 people.” The article went on to state, “Consumers spent a record $73.2 billion online in June, up 76% from June 2019, according to Adobe Analytics, which tracks activity on thousands of websites. Online shopping is now above typical holiday levels, Adobe said.” And the holidays don’t scare us! Scarbrough’s fulfillment team is ready for the increase in orders, while keeping on track with our 99.86% world class accuracy rate.
