Scarbrough International, Ltd., Sukup Manufacturing, and GoServ Global are proud to announce they have entered into a charitable partnership and are excited to work together for natural disaster relief and recovery.

Safe T Home® Pictured above

Since 2011, Sukup Manufacturing has created 280 Safe T Homes® to distribute in Haiti and other nations impacted by natural disasters through GoServ Global.  All of the nearly 200 Safe T Homes® that were in the path of Hurricane Matthew in 2016 withstood 145 mph winds with just minor damage.  Scarbrough has now teamed up with Sukup and GoServ Global by donating its services, transporting these homes from where they are manufactured in Iowa to wherever they need to go in the world. Scarbrough is able to ship these homes across our own nation and export them where needed.

This past week marks the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Matthew, which swept the Atlantic in October of 2016, leaving so many without homes. And we cannot forget the January 2010 earthquake, which led Sukup to design the Safe T Home® in the first place.  The Safe T Home® measures 18-feet in diameter and made entirely of metal, making it resistant to termites and moisture. It is also virtually earthquake proof. Each home can sleep 10 or more and features a double-roofed system that displaces heat, a full-size, lockable steel door, two windows that can be locked from within and a water collection system.

The Safe T Home® is built to withstand strong winds, can hold up to 60 people in each home to ride out a storm and has a life expectancy of 75 years. Imagine those in underdeveloped countries that truly have nowhere to go nor the resources to keep themselves safe.  The Safe T Home® can be assembled on-site with simple hand tools. Natural disasters are out of our control, but we can control and help families have a safe place to live by sending Safe T Homes®.

Scarbrough, Sukup and GoServ Global first met during an ABI Taking Care of Business conference, which was surrounded by the theme of “Giving Back.” That is exactly why the companies came together — to unite for a greater impact of giving back.  The Iowa Association of Business and Industry, holds events throughout the year with engaging and relevant content and opportunities to connect fellow members. Both companies are members of ABI and open the opportunity for more members to join them in this generous cause! Read what Emily Schmidtt, General Counsel for Sukup Manufacturing, has to say.

If your company wants to get involved, it’s easy!  You can help build a Safe T Home® and help keep these victims safe through contributions of your company’s products, services, or monetary donations.  You won’t regret it.  The Safe T Homes® have saved lives. Help us to save more.
