Time to take Advantage

If shippers have cargo moving from the USA to Mexico, May tends to be the best time to take advantage of great shipping rates.  Why?  There happens to be a lot of equipment available in the USA after massive amounts of cargo continues to be brought in from Mexico during late spring and early summer.

Available equipment = Better rates

It is the time of year, when Mexican agricultural producers begin to export their harvested vegetables and fruits to the major food distributors in the USA. Normally, this period begins at the end of April and extends until the end of May through mid-June. In fact, produce season in the United States typically begins in April and runs through the end of July and it is the busiest time of the year in regards to domestic shipping.

Did you know?

The main states of Mexico with the highest demand for shipments to the USA are Jalisco, Michoacán, Guerrero, Sonora, Sinaloa and Guanajuato.

It’s peak season for Produce. So, how do you plan your shipments?
  • Plan with your logistics partner ahead of time.  This helps your provider obtain contracts and the best pricing for you with their partner transportation providers.  It is important to secure equipment as soon as possible in order to find availability and maintain a reasonable cost.
  • Allow for extra days. Give the drivers an extra 3-5 days’ notice of your needs, so they can plan their shipments and time.
  • Be flexible and be prepared.  If your cargo ships in a direct truck, be prepared for your cargo to transload at the border.  In order to do this, you need to have your products palletized. Doing the transload can save you money and also you can find more equipment available.
Other Peak Seasons to Consider

There are other times of the year that are considered high season for import and export between USA and Mexico.

September through November is considered Christmas season, where there is a high volume of cargo moving north and southbound in and out of Mexico.
