Selecting an NVOCC

Choosing the right Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier (NVOCC) is a critical step in being assured that your cargo will get to where it’s going quickly and efficiently. You should also feel confident that you will be receiving the best customer service available. The following suggestions are what you should look for when choosing an NVOCC. Having confidence in your shipping partners will take at one major worry off your plate so that you can focus on taking care of other parts of your business.

First and foremost, make sure that your NVOCC has the proper licensing. A license granted by the Federal Maritime Commission shows that the NVOCC has been approved by the commission. Scarbrough International is a properly licensed NVOCC.

Secondly, you should look for experience. A company that has consistently pleased its customers is likely to stay in business for a long time, while those who are unable to do so often disappear quickly. Scarbrough has been in business (and consistently growing) since 1984 – positioning itself as a leader in the industry and building contacts, both locally and internationally.

You should also look for a company’s procedural competence, which directly relates to its employees’ competence. Scarbrough’s knowledgeable and experienced employees have years of experience in the industry, and will do everything in their power to ensure that your shipment gets to where it needs to go, on time. From quick turnaround on quotes, to providing your company with insurance on your shipments, to providing full details of your shipment status as well as a track and trace system, Scarbrough is able to provide you with a full spectrum of services.

A company’s global reach is an obvious component of their ability to provide quality service. As a member of several partner networks, Scarbrough is able to provide you with the best of both worlds – the global reach of a multinational company, coupled with local ownership and staff to give you the customer service you deserve.

One of the most important aspects of judging a company is its reputation among its peers. Scarbrough International, Ltd. is a member of United Shipping – A worldwide network of independently owned and operated businesses. In order to be admitted to this organization, companies must go through a rigorous vetting process which includes research into the company’s financial stability, personal interviews and background checks. Only the very best companies who have a long term track record of excellent customer service and being committed to being the best are selected to be members. Not only is Scarbrough a member of this organization, but at United Shipping’s annual meeting in London this January, Scarbrough International was selected by its peers to receive the organization’s highest honor: International Partner of the Year.

Scarbrough Logistics, Ltd. Reliability and Service

In today’s fast paced, just in time, service market your service provider choice is critical. Scarbrough Logistics, the onsite logistics partner of Scarbrough International Ltd, will ease your supply chain disruptions. From our own fleet of company owned trucks to our fully capable bonded CFS warehouses we are the solution to many of the issues you face every day.

At Scarbrough Logistics we own our own trucks. That gives us control over how, when and where we are able to service our customers. Many international freight forwarders in the market-place today broker out a majority of their freight and rely on common carriers or local pickup and delivery services for all of their ground transportation needs and are then at the mercy of when that carrier can get your freight delivered. They do this because they see ground or domestic transportation as a necessary evil not as a service that can make or break your supply chain.

What good is it to get your goods to the destination city if you can’t get your product to your customer or on the shelf when you need it? When your goods move on a Scarbrough truck we maintain control over the shipment and we are in a position to make the needed delivery time or special delivery when you need us to. When we need to move your goods out of our system on another carrier we have a network of carriers that have proven to us over the years their reliability...

Chinese Government Cuts Tax Rebates on Exported Goods

On July 1st 2007 the Chinese government will be reducing and, in some cases, removing the available tax rebates on exported goods. The major tariff categories will include some metal products, textiles, shoes and other manufactured goods.

Exports from china could potential increase dramatically in the coming week with shippers and importers trying to move product prior to the imposition of the rebate cuts.

Importers should anticipate an influx of freight, potentially causing delays at domestic and origin ports. The announcement also declared that no grace periods should be expected except ship sections and some construction equipment, since previous grace periods on export-policy changes resulted in many cases of fraudulent export contracts.

The 10+2 Security Initiative

US Customs and Border Protection has been working to increase the amount of information gathered at foreign ports of lading for freight departing for the U.S.  This proposal is known as “10+2”.  “10+2” is defined as CBP considering 10 data elements that importers or their agents would be required to provide before a vessel could depart a foreign port, and two additional data elements that would be required from vessel operators.  CBP believes the additional information will enhance the screening capabilities of the Automated Targeting System.  CBP wants the importer to designate an agent to complete and file the 10 additional elements...
